If you've been wondering what everyone else is buying, these are the most popular products both online and at my aesthetic practice...- Jan Marini Bioclear, the first product to try for acne and spots, I use this a lot in the practice together with peels to clear acne and spots and its often the only product needed.
- Jan Marini Bioglycolic cleanser, good for all skin types and I've never seen anyone react to it.
- Jan Marini Daily Face Protectant, SPF, again good for all skin types although I've seen some oilier skins suffer breakouts with it. Excellent to use as a morning moisturiser all year round as it gives SPF as well as anti-oxidant protection. Many of my clients buy 2 or 3 tubes at a time.
- Jan Marini Age Intervention, I sell a lot of this rich cream in the practice to people who are outdoors a lot, it protects against the weather and addresses the way female hormone fluctuations can affect the skin.
- Jan Marini Transformation skin, excellent for scarring, good for all skin types.
- Agera Microderma Crystal Kit, this sells well online, a good gentle resurfacer and easy to use at home.
- Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel, very popular for dry skins to be worn under cream, also great for oily skins who can wear without cream on top.
- Mene and Moy C20 and C5 creams, these 2 products are quite similar and sell well on line as they are great value, both contain anti-oxidants and vitamins in pump dispensers.
- Mene and Moy enhanced cream, again great value with very high levels of glycolic to resurface, another item clients buy 2 or 3 of at a time.
- Mene and Moy Yellow peel lip balm, a good alternative to those not wanted an injectable lip enhancer, very effective.
- DCL at home peel, a high strength at home peel, easy to use.

Treating sun damaged skin - 12 Oct 09
Skin damaged by sun is slack and loose due to destruction of collagen and elastin within the skin. Skin can be dry, coarse with loss of tone. Lines and wrinkles will be evident and there is often uneven pigmentation or discolouration.Sun related problems are caused when oxygen molecules become highly reactive following exposure to sunlight, they become what are known as free radicals. Free radicals attack skin cells damaging thousands of cells DNA and membranes.
There are 2 important steps to take when treating sun damage, first prevention of further damage and secondly treatment.
To prevent further damage use a product such as Jan Marini daily face protectant all year round, this best selling moisturiser contains anti oxidants to counter free radicals and SPF.
To treat sun damage the following products are recommended;
Glycolic products in the Jan Marini, Mene and Moy, DCL sections to resurface the skin.
Anti-oxidants, usually vitamins, products such as these are available in all the ranges on this website, for example Skinceuticals Phloretin, Mene and Moy C20, Jan Marini Daily Face Protectant and C-Esta.
Transformation cream in the Jan Marini range, contains transforming growth factor or TGF-Beta-1 to encourage collagen and elastin production.
Retinol, a form of vitamin A to smooth lines and wrinkles, found in Jan Marini Factor A+, Agera Ultimate Retinol Rejuvenator.
For any dark spots or uneven pigmentation Jan Marini Lightening Gel or Skinceuticals Phtyo+.
Treating Acne and Spots - 30 Apr 09
Acne and spots are caused by a number of factors and can be problematic to treat, however understanding the causes and being consistent with treatment using effective products can bring about very positive changes.Acne is caused by an increase in oil production and build up and retention of skin cells in the skin follicle. This then gives an ideal environment for p-acne bacteria to thrive causing redness, infection, lumps and scarring.
Many factors determine flare ups of acne, some of the causes are thought to be hereditary. Hormonal activity, stress, diet also influence the formation of acne. It is rare for skin hygiene to cause acne although many sufferers feel "dirty"
I have been treating acne in my aesthetic practice for 5 years using a combination of products and peels, the main product range for treating acne is Jan Marini.
The cornerstone product ingredients for treating acne are;
Benzoyl peroxide to kill p-acne bacteria.
Glycolic acid to break down the build up of skin cells in the follicle
Salicylic acid to retard and reverse the formation of spots.
Azeliac acid to unblock follicles, also an anti bacterial.
Retinol to prevent build up of cells and help skin repair.
Oil absorbing sponges to prevent shine.
For scarring retinol and transforming factor and various botanical extracts.
The products which contain these ingredients in the Jan Marini range are;
All of the glycolic range, products such as acne gel and bioclear contain several of the ingedients together.
Factor A+ range contains retinol and glycolic
Benzoyl peroxide range
Daily face protectant contains microscopic sponges.
Transformation cream for scarring.
In the other ranges DCL at home peel contains glycolic and using this once or twice a week at home is a very good alternative to visiting a salon or aesthetic practice for a peel. There are also some acne products in the DCL range.
Skinceuticals phtyo corrective gel contains botanicals to soothe and calm red skin.
My advice when using these products is to introduce the products one at a time, daily face protectant and transformation cream can be introduced with other products. And be consistent with the products, use them twice a day without fail.

At home facials - 16 Jan 09
January 2009This month, some ideas for an at home facial/mini peel. Much needed for most skins after Christmas indulgence and stress, and cold weather.
Ideally the skin needs resurfacing first to remove all dead skin cells and cellular build up, this will ensure that any products or masks used on top will penetrate the skin.
To resurface first cleanse then use either the Agera microderma crystal kit, or Jan Marini clean zyme mask, or DCL glycolic peel system. The clean zyme and Agera products need massaging in, if using the DCL peel massage your skin while cleansing.
Then use a mask such as Jan Marini Factor A+ containing retinol and glycolic ( don't use this if you've used the glycolic peel already), or mene and moy peel off vitamin C mask. Cleanse again after mask is removed.
Lastly apply a serum and moisuriser of your choice. Skinceuticals hydrating B5 gel is excellent under a moisturiser.
